Play BETTER, Play SMART

Parent Code of Conduct

Introduction

As parents or guardians of children participating in the Rugby IQ Academy, it is important to promote a positive and respectful atmosphere that encourages safe, fun, and fair play. The role of a parent is integral to the success of the Academy, and the behaviour of parents can have a significant impact on their child’s experience. This Parent Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour both on and off the field.

1. Respect for Children’s Welfare and Development

  • I will prioritize my child’s well-being and development above all else.
  • I will encourage my child to follow the rules of the Academy, as well as the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play.
  • I will respect my child’s wishes and give them space to enjoy the sport, understanding that participation should be fun and a learning experience, not a source of stress or pressure.
  • I will not pressure my child into playing or competing in any manner, but instead will support their decision to enjoy the sport at their own pace and ability level.

2. Respect for Coaches and Officials

  • I will respect the decisions and authority of coaches and officials and will not publicly question or criticise their decisions during games or training.
  • I understand that coaches are trained professionals, and their decisions are made with the best interests of the children in mind. If I have concerns, I will address them privately and respectfully with the coach after the session or event.
  • I will support coaches by ensuring my child arrives on time for training and matches and is appropriately prepared for each session (e.g., correct kit, hydration, etc.).

3. Support Positive Behaviour

  • I will act as a positive role model by demonstrating good sportsmanship, respect, and encouragement, regardless of the outcome of the game or event.
  • I will always encourage my child to play within the rules and uphold the values of fair play, honesty, and respect for others.
  • I will ensure that my child behaves respectfully to coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials at all times.
  • I will support and encourage all players, including those from opposing teams, in a positive manner.

4. Respect for Other Parents and Guardians

  • I will respect other parents, guardians, and spectators and will contribute to creating a positive and friendly environment at all Academy events.
  • I will avoid making derogatory or inflammatory comments and will be considerate in my interactions with others.
  • I will not engage in any form of disruptive behaviour, including shouting or criticising players, coaches, or referees during training, matches, or events.

5. Safety and Well-being

  • I will always ensure that my child’s physical and emotional safety is protected while attending Rugby IQ Academy activities.
  • I will inform the Rugby IQ Academy of any medical conditions, allergies, or other relevant information that may impact my child’s participation.
  • I will ensure that my child’s travel arrangements are organised and that they are collected promptly from all Academy events.
  • I will report any concerns about my child’s safety, welfare, or any misconduct by other players, parents, or coaches in accordance with the Rugby IQ Academy’s Reporting Procedures.

6. Support for the Academy’s Policies and Procedures

  • I will adhere to all Academy policies, including the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, and will act in a manner that supports the safety, well-being, and development of all players.
  • I will comply with the Academy’s Code of Conduct and ensure that my actions align with the values of integrity, respect, and responsibility.
  • I will attend meetings and participate in discussions if needed, and offer constructive feedback to help improve the Academy's operations, ensuring the welfare of children is always prioritised.

7. Social Media and Online Behaviour

  • I will be mindful of how I interact on social media and will not post or share negative comments or images about the Rugby IQ Academy, players, coaches, officials, or other parents.
  • I will respect the privacy of others and will seek permission before posting pictures or videos of other children during Academy events.
  • I will encourage my child to use social media responsibly and in accordance with the Academy’s guidelines, and will monitor their online activity to ensure they engage in safe, respectful behaviour.

8. Disciplinary Action

  • I understand that any breach of this Parent Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including removal from Academy events or activities if necessary.
  • In cases of serious or repeated misconduct, I understand that the Rugby IQ Academy reserves the right to address the issue in line with its Disciplinary Procedures, which may include suspension or permanent exclusion from Academy participation.

Conclusion

As a parent or guardian, you play a crucial role in ensuring a positive, respectful, and safe environment for your child to enjoy rugby. By adhering to the Parent Code of Conduct, you help to create a culture where all players, coaches, and supporters feel valued, supported, and motivated to excel.
